For Swimming, one of a kind sculpture by Dawn Vachon

$650.00

We have collaborated with visual artist, Dawn Vachon, on a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by Swimming (release scheduled for April 8, 2025). This piece is titled For Swimming and its dimensions are 19cm x 14cm x 17cm high.

Collaboration is a conversation—sometimes in words, sometimes in sound, and sometimes in form. When working on this piece, Dawn Vachon let the music guide her.

"I got this sense of longing—but not in a desperate way. More of a casual, floating, ‘I’ve done this before’ kind of longing. Not quite connecting. Moody. Melancholic."

With that feeling in mind, she listened. Then listened again. Sketching shapes, exploring cloudy forms, drawn to the idea of movement and missed connections without being too literal. A murky ocean glaze, shifting textures—an intuitive process, shaped by hand using a pinching technique, layered with porcelain slip and a handmade glaze that flows in the kiln, accentuating every mark of making.

This is what collaboration looks like—responding, interpreting, letting the work evolve.

Dawn Vachon is a Canadian-born, Melbourne-based artist who studied visual arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, receiving her BFA in 2008.

Dawn has exhibited extensively and her work is in both public and private collections. Dawn makes both functional and sculptural work.
